Spring Welcomes 69 Notable Hotel Openings Around The Globe

This spring, dozens of hotels around the world will open their doors for the first time during the months of March, April and May. This is great news for travelers interested in planning future trips. Despite ongoing Covid-19 concerns, hoteliers spend years preparing to open new properties. Cutting the ribbon on these newest openings generates jobs and plenty of travel inspiration. Here’s where to find this spring’s newest hotel openings around the globe divided by region or U.S. time zone.

Eastern Time Zone

JW Marriott Charlotte opens its first property in North Carolina’s largest city in May. It is across from the city’s convention center and near local landmarks like the NASCAR Hall of Fame and Bank of America Stadium.

In March, Kinley Chattanooga, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel, opens with 64 rooms in the city’s entertainment district. Derived from the word kinship, the Marriott Bonvoy-member hotel is true to its name, according to its general manager, in that it wants to be the “living room for the neighborhood,” with a lobby coffee bar that transitions to serve cocktails later in the day.

Charleston, South Carolina’s newest boutique option, The Ryder Hotel, sits in the city’s famed historic district. Guests can reserve one of its 91 rooms and suites starting in May. The hotel will have a lively cocktail lounge as well as grab-and-go snacks and barista-prepared coffee.

Florida’s capital city of Tallahassee will welcome a new AC Hotel Tallahassee with 154 rooms in May. It will offer a rooftop bar and observation deck overlooking the city’s 24-acre downtown park with multi use trails, interactive water fountains, and an amphitheater for events.

Fresh from a successful Super Bowl win, Tampa scores another big goal by toasting the 519-room JW Marriott Tampa Water Street with a grand opening celebration in April. Floating art in its four-story atrium and a resort-style pool are notable features of JW Marriott’s 100th property opening.

Near Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom, ette hotels Orlando opens in April as a member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts. Among its notable features are rooms with Frette linens and a Michelin-starred chef overseeing the menu.

Residence Inn Jacksonville-Mayo Clinic Area offers extended stay accommodations near the area’s Mayo Clinic facility. Its April opening will give visitors a convenient option to both medical facilities (via free shuttle) and the beach, which is just three miles away.

In May, Amrit Ocean Resort & Residences will finally open as a wellness-focused retreat sitting on seven beachfront acres of Palm Beach County’s Singer Island. Wellness coaches will help design individualized programs for guests involving spa amenities like an Aayush Hydrothermal water therapy circuit or IV and sound and light therapies plus healthy meals from its “plant-centric” menu. The resort will also be part of Preferred Hotels & Resorts and participate in its I Prefer Hotel Rewards program.

At the end of March, the AC Hotel Fort Lauderdale Sawgrass Mills/Sunrise will open near its namesake shopping mall and The Colonnade luxury outlet stores. It will be the first new hotel to open in Sunrise in 15 years and the first AC Hotel by Marriott in Broward County.

And for those looking for the maximum time outdoors combined with a bit of glamping, Huttopia’s new property opening in New York’s Adirondack Mountains in May should help. The family-owned, French brand’s newest location will feature 79 wood frame and canvas tents. A menu of made-to-order, French “camping cuisine” will also be on offer at Huttopia Adirondacks, which is under four hours’ driving distance from Manhattan.

Hutton Brickyards opens in April in Kingston, New York giving city dwellers yet another option to get away from the hubbub. Overlooking the Hudson River, it is located in the region’s last architecturally intact brick manufactory and surrounded by rolling hills and lush greenery.

Choice Hotels is betting on a comeback in New York City with several new hotel openings as part of its upscale Ascend Hotel Collection. These include The Draper, Ascend Hotel Collection located on West 37th Street and Brooklyn Vybe Hotel, Ascend Hotel Collection. Both will open in March. In addition, the growing Cambria brand will open Cambria Hotel Orlando Airport in April and Cambria Hotel Louisville Downtown-Whiskey Row in May.

Margaritaville Resort Times Square is sure to make a big splash when it opens in late May with its island-inspired decor and Jimmy Buffet vibes. Its 234 rooms and resort atmosphere will be unique in the city.

Marriott continues its hotel opening spree with the sustainability-minded Element Philadelphia, which will welcome guests in May. Many of its accommodations are suites with full kitchens and adaptable work spaces ideal for longer stays.

The first Marriott Autograph Collection in Quebec opens in Montreal this April as the Humaniti Hotel Montreal. The 39-floor tower will have 193 rooms and suites plus a  3,000-bottle wine cellar under the supervision of Hugo Duchesne, who earned the title of Best Sommelier of Quebec 2020.

W Toronto was originally planning to open by late May (now June) with a rooftop bar and restaurant, 254 rooms and suites and W Sound Suite recording studio ideal for budding (and professional) musicians that want to sleep and perform at the same address.

Central and Mountain Time Zones

Visitors to Huntsville, Alabama can experience the city’s newest downtown hotel 106 Jefferson, a Curio Collection by Hilton property. A rooftop lounge featuring a nightly cocktail menu and sky-high views has special meaning given the city’s nickname as “Rocket City,” since it’s home to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center.

Blossom Hotel adds another upscale name to the roster in Houston. It will open in April with 267 rooms, a lavish restaurant and lobby lounge, a Japanese-style karaoke bar and sizeable meeting space.

Marriott Dallas Uptown will open at the end of March showcasing the brand’s next-generation room design. It includes energy-efficient cooling and lighting systems, WiFi modems in each room, and fog-resistant mirrors among other perks. The property also has Peloton bikes that can be rented for in-room workouts.

The Big Easy gets a new luxury hotel when Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences New Orleans opens in May. It will be located next to the financial center of town, French Quarter and Warehouse District.

In April, the Hotel Deco will open in Omaha as part of the Aparium Hotel Group’s latest renovation of historic buildings in cities across America. Located in the Old Market neighborhood, Hotel Deco features 89 rooms and decor that recalls much of the city’s cultural past and present.

The Pendry Chicago will open in the Art Deco Carbide & Carbon building in April. Close to The Magnificent Mile, the hotel will feature a panoramic rooftop lounge.

Door County, Wisconsin welcomes a new hotel with the late May opening of The Dorr Hotel, which will celebrate the region’s Dutch, Swedish and Norwegian heritage through its design.

With more travelers looking to immerse themselves in nature and a wellness mindset, some new hotels seem tailor-made for today’s travel environment. Just outside of Bayfield, Wisconsin (known as the “gateway to Apostle Islands National Lakeshore”), the midwest’s first, all-inclusive wellness retreat will open at the end of May. Wild Rice Retreat will have 19 units, and guests can engage in a host of included activities like yoga, prose writing, photography, jewelry-making, mentorship and even metal smithing.

In Santa Fe, New Mexico, Bishop’s Lodge, Auberge Resorts Collection will open as a southwestern-themed resort in April with 100 rooms and suites. Its interior design is the handiwork of Mary Alice Palmer’s hospitality interiors team at HKS. Also on hand are a healing arts studio, art gallery, trout habitat, horse stables and a 12-bedroom accommodation ideal for buyouts or multi-generational family visits.

In May, The Cloudveil, an Autograph Collection hotel, will open in downtown Jackson, Wyoming as the only hotel on the city’s historic town square. With national parks and outdoor destinations growing in popularity among Americans, this new, 100-room luxury option at the gateway to Grand Teton National Park and one hour south of Yellowstone National Park is a boon to Marriott Bonvoy fans.

Golden, Colorado welcomes The Eddy Taproom & Hotel in May when the 49-room boutique property opens. Its decor pays homage to the region’s mining history since it is situated on the site of the old Rocky Mountain Fire Brick Works. It’s easy to fuel up for outdoor adventure thanks to craft cocktails and beer from its taproom, which complement the hotel’s food truck producing milkshakes and barbecue.

Pacific and Hawaii Time Zones

With two dozen rooms, the Spanish colonial-style Palihouse Santa Barbara opens in March in the city’s Presidio district near eclectic shopping and dining. Designers say the interior look of guest rooms, each of which has a fireplace, is a mix of “vintage preppy” and “American Riviera.”

Le Méridien Pasadena Arcadia will show off its French flair as part of the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio when it opens this May. Across from the historic Santa Anita Racetrack, designers pay homage to its locale with an equestrian theme running through the 234-room hotel’s design.

The largest oceanfront development in San Diego County in more than 50 years will open in Oceanside, California when the 226-room Seabird Resort and 161-room Mission Pacific Hotel open in May. The Seabird Resort is a Destination by Hyatt member (formerly known as Destination Hotels) while Mission Pacific is a JdV by Hyatt property (formerly known as Joie de Vivre), both of which are part of World of Hyatt. Don’t miss the historic Graves House, seen in the Hollywood film Top Gun, which was built nearly 140 years ago and moved to Mission Pacific last year as part of a million-dollar restoration effort.

Middle East and Africa

A participant in Accor’s All Live Limitless loyalty program, SLS Dubai Hotel & Residences opens in March as one of the tallest hotels and residences in the city. It features 946 units spread across 75 floors within the city’s Burj Khalifa district. SLS Dubai is the first SLS hotel in the Middle East.

The St. Regis Dubai, The Palm will open in May taking up the first 19 floors of The Palm Tower on Palm Jumeirah. A highlight of the 290-room property will be two infinity pools overlooking the famous palm-shaped islands.

On Oman’s sparkling coastline, Alila Hinu Bay unlocks its 112 rooms and suites, including more than a dozen pool villas, in April with a private beach and range of family-friendly activities. Alila is one of the many luxury brands that participate in World of Hyatt.

At the end of March, voco Doha West Bay Suites will open in Qatar with 396 rooms plus an outdoor pool, spa facilities and shisha lounge. This will be IHG’s fourth voco property in the Middle East following openings in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Vacationers will soon have Club Med Seychelles as another option in the Indian Ocean when it opens in March. On the private island of Sainte Anne along the preserved Marine National Park, the all-inclusive resort will be part of Club Med’s Exclusive Collection. Guests can participate in nature conservation experiences like marine conservation and turtle nesting during their stay.

Also in the Seychelles, in the southern part of Mahé, Mango House Seychelles, LXR Hotels & Resorts, will open in May with 41 rooms and suites. LXR is part of the Hilton Honors family meaning guests can earn and redeem points for a stay.

Radisson Blu Hotel Juba in the South Sudanese capital opens in May as the city’s only international brand. Its Hai Malakal district location means its 168 rooms overlook the White Nile River. A rooftop bar and restaurant will have equally panoramic views.

Little DumaTau by Wilderness Safaris has been rebuilt from the ground up with plans to open in April. Its four tented guest rooms, each with a private pool, are ideal for outdoor living and safari expeditions in Botswana. Star beds allow for nighttime slumber beneath the stars.

In Morocco, Accor’s olive grove-shrouded Fairmont Taghazout Bay opens in April with guest rooms and residential-style villas. Fairmont is part of the All Live Limitless program from the French hotel company.

Asia-Pacific

W Hotels will open W Osaka in March. The Japanese property is W’s first in the nation with 337 rooms across 27 floors in a new-build property along Mido-Suji Boulevard.

The 40-suite FUFU Kyoto will open in April only ten minutes away from Kyoto Nanzenji Temple by foot. Traditional Japanese cuisine and dance are part of the experience here, and all guest rooms feature a bath using water from local hot springs.

ZAZZ Island Maldives opens in March on the South Ari Atoll, only a 25-minute seaplane flight from the country’s busiest and only international airport. The resort has 101 overwater and beach villas including many with a private pool and sea lagoon access plus a spa and six restaurants and bars.

Europe

In Bucharest, Romania, Marriott’s Autograph Collection welcomes The Marmorosch in May with 217 rooms in a former bank built nearly two centuries ago. It sits in the city’s Old Town pedestrian area.

Engelberg, Switzerland will welcome the Kempinski Palace Engelberg in May. During the warmer months, it’s ideal for hiking in the Swiss Alps or relaxing in the spa or rooftop pool. In colder weather, guests are close to the funicular that takes guests to nearby ski slopes.

Dutch hotel group ZOKU will open ZOKU Copenhagen in April with 160 loft-style apartment-like accommodations. Each comes with a dining area and kitchen plus access to the hotel’s rooftop greenhouse and neighboring restaurant. The hotel is located on Amager island, close to the Danish capital’s city center.

The long-awaited opening of the Mandarin Oriental Ritz in Madrid is finally happening in April. Within the city’s “Golden Triangle of Art” (referring to the three famous art museums surrounding the hotel), Mandarin Oriental Ritz will have an enviable position for tourists. Spanish architect Rafael de La-Hoz and French designer duo Gilles & Boissier worked well together to preserve the Belle Epoque features of the building while infusing some contemporary touches into its 153 rooms and suites.

Hotel Riomar, Ibiza, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel, will open on the Spanish island of Ibiza in May with seaview guest rooms and another Marriott Bonvoy option for visitors to the Balearic Islands.

The Hoxton, Rome will open in May with 192 rooms in the Italian capital’s Parioli neighborhood within walking distance of Villa Borghese. This will be the tenth Hoxton to open with sibling hotels in the United States and Europe.

Castello di Reschio opens in the Italian city of Perugia this April as part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World grouping.

Island hoppers can head to Santorini to find two more new resorts: Katikies Garden opening in March in the historic town of Fira and Nikki Beach Resort & Spa Santorini officially opening in April on the southeastern coastline of the famous volcanic island.

Hilton welcomes its first Curio Collection by Hilton on the Greek island of Crete when The Royal Senses Resort opens in April. Guests can enjoy modern interiors, al fresco dining and infinity-edge pools that seem to spill directly into the Mediterranean Sea.

Accor fans will find a new option in the Greek islands with the opening of Angsana Corfu, the first Banyan Tree property in Europe. To open in April, its 159 rooms and 37 villas overlook the bay of Benitses.

London will see two new openings including Pan Pacific’s first address in Europe when the 237-room Pan Pacific London opens in May. In the same month, The Londoner opens in Leicester Square as an entirely new-build hotel and part of Preferred Hotels & Resorts.

Latin America and the Caribbean

April will see the opening of the new Margaritaville Beach Resort at The Pointe in Nassau, Bahamas. The resort will feature 150 rooms plus a variety of serviced residences known as Margaritaville at The Pointe as part of the $250 million, seven-acre luxury development. There’s something for everyone including a FlowRider surf simulator at the Fins Up Water Park, lazy river pool, climbing wall, and entertainment complex with virtual-reality sports, karaoke and bowling.

Following the hurricanes of 2017, Saba Rock on Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands opens as an entirely new property rebuilt from the ground up. By May, its nine guest rooms, two well-stocked bars, an open-air restaurant and watersports center with everything from kite boarding to diving will be fully operational.

Radisson Blu Aruba opens in April on the island’s Palm Beach with 133 rooms and suites including two and three-bedroom options with full kitchens and separate living rooms.

Aloft Ponce opens in Puerto Rico’s second-largest city this March. This is the island’s second Aloft hotel and features two restaurants including a Hard Rock Cafe.

Villa Bokeh in Guatemala opens this spring as a luxury, seven-room hacienda with a private art collection and enclosed gardens with firepits in view of nearby volcanoes. It will be the second Relais & Chateaux hotel to open in the country.

In May, Drift San Jose del Cabo opens along Mexico’s Baja California peninsula near the city’s gallery district. It will offer 28 rooms and villas, an outdoor courtyard and pool, and a restaurant and bar.

Marriott’s focus on Central and Latin America continues, now in Belize. The Alaia Belize, Autograph Collection opens in May under 2,000 feet from the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve overlooking the Caribbean Sea. In addition to an art gallery and wine club, the resort has three pools, one of which is the country’s first suspended rooftop pool.

In El Salvador, the Hyatt Centric San Salvador will open in May next to the city-center Soho Cascades Mall. With 138 rooms and suites, it also has meeting space for small groups and events.

The Atlantic island of Bermuda will celebrate the opening of St. Regis Bermuda Resort in the UNESCO World Heritage Site town of St. George. This hotel is a milestone for the Marriott brand since it is the first time it has had a hotel on the island since 1999.

Buenos Aires will debut the sbe, SLS Puerto Madero Hotels & Residences in the Argentine capital with 58 rooms and suites. Part of Accor and its All Live Limitless loyalty program, the hotel features the handiwork of Italian architect and designer Piero Lissoni.
