Police were called to the Liverpool team hotel just hours before their final Premier League match of the season against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Officers were called to the Titanic Hotel at Liverpool’s Stanley Docks, where the team were staying, after it was targeted by fireworks in the early hours of this morning. Pyrotechnics were set off outside the hotel at 1:45am on Sunday, with Merseyside Police confirming “a couple of fireworks” were set off on Regent Road.

When the police arrived, they found an empty box of fireworks at the scene and spoke to a man who they later took home.

No arrests were made but The Mirror report a police spokesperson said high-visibility patrols were carried out following the incident.

Liverpool host Wolves at Anfield on Sunday afternoon in their final match of the season, with the title still a possibility for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Reds go into the final day one point behind City but will snatch the title if they win and City slip up at home to Aston Villa, who are managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

Speaking to the media ahead of the match, Klopp admitted he would have laughed if someone had told him Liverpool would have the chance to win the quadruple still at this stage of the season.

Liverpool face Wolverhampton Wanderers on the final day of the season

“Imagine somebody tells you before the season, you’re going to be in all three cup finals and want to fight for the league,” explained the German boss.

“You would say ‘Yeah, good luck with that’. It’s actually not possible but the boys did it – fed by the people here in the building (training ground), by our supporters, by all these kind of things.

“It has been tough but great. It’s absolutely a joy to be part of it. Being part of this group is exceptional. By the group, I mean not only the players, we are here in the building of the group. It’s insane.

“Working together with these people is a pure joy. Being where we are is so rare, you cannot plan it. It’s a fantastic time for a Liverpool supporter and now we have to make sure we enjoy the last two games as well.

“The most enjoyable thing in football is winning football games, that makes everything much easier. Two massive games to come, one directly on Sunday, and we have to make sure we are ready for that.”

Having already won both the League Cup and FA Cup, Liverpool face Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League next weekend after the conclusion of the Premier League season.
